Welcome to Enfield Magazine: Your Guide to Life in North London's Greenest Borough

Welcome to the first edition of Enfield Magazine, a new publication dedicated to covering the people, places, and stories that define the London Borough of Enfield.

Why Enfield Matters

Enfield occupies a distinctive position within Greater London. As the northernmost borough, it sits at the boundary between the capital and Hertfordshire, offering residents a blend of suburban tranquillity and transport connections to the city centre. The area encompasses several distinct communities: the historic market town of Enfield, the leafy suburbs of Southgate and Palmers Green, and the bustling districts of Edmonton and Ponders End.

What This Magazine Will Cover

Enfield Magazine will publish regular features on local news, community initiatives, planning developments, and cultural events across the borough. We will report on council decisions that affect residents, profile local businesses and entrepreneurs, and highlight the work of community groups and charities.

Our coverage will extend to the practical matters that concern local residents: transport infrastructure, school admissions, housing developments, and environmental initiatives. We will also feature the borough's green spaces, from the extensive Trent Park to local nature reserves, and examine how these areas are maintained and accessed.

The Enfield Identity

The borough carries a notable industrial heritage. The Lee-Enfield rifle was manufactured here, and the area was once home to significant armaments production. The world's first cash machine was installed at a Barclays branch in Enfield Town in 1967, an innovation that transformed banking globally. Today, the local economy has shifted toward retail, services, and small businesses, with the Palace Gardens shopping centre and the regenerated Enfield Town centre serving as commercial hubs.

Looking Ahead

Major development projects are reshaping parts of the borough. The Meridian Water scheme represents one of the largest regeneration projects in London, promising thousands of new homes and commercial space. The long-awaited delivery of the Bakerloo Line extension would bring the Underground to the eastern parts of the borough, though timelines remain uncertain.

Enfield Magazine will follow these developments closely, reporting on planning applications, consultations, and the practical implications for existing residents.

How to Engage

We welcome contributions from readers. If you have a story idea, a local issue you believe deserves coverage, or feedback on our reporting, we encourage you to get in touch.

This publication belongs to the community it serves. Our aim is to provide accurate, relevant information that helps Enfield residents make informed decisions about their local area.
